Description
1678 Occult Sciences Superstition Oracles Demons Gassendi Philosophy Metaphysics
Pierre Gassendi was a 17th-century French philosopher and astronomer. He is most remembered for his philosophical views on skepticism and spiritual dogmas, all while formulating theories to bind Christianity and atomism. Gassendi warns against blinding accepting and following Aristotelian philosophy, but rather encourages the reader to explore and meditate on Aristotle’s theories.
This volume from the 1678 issue of the philosophical works of Gassendi was written by Francois Bernier. Bernier was mostly known for his medical practice, but he also spent time traveling, writing of his discoveries, and writing on historical empires. This volume covers principles of metaphysics – virtues, servitude, dealing with death and loss, imprisonment, sickness, and sobriety, along with occult studies – divination, superstition, oracles, ancient demons, destiny, and fortune!
