Description
HARRY LONG (MICHIGAN, 20TH C.) OIL ON CANVAS, H 16", W 20", "FEMININITY" Depicting a stage set with a dress form on a beach. Signed lower left. Having a Detroit Institute of Arts annual exhibition for Michigan artists label (c.1930-1950) on the verso. Wood and gesso frame H 18.75", W 22.75". Provenance: The estate of a prominent Bloomfield Hills, MI collector. By descent to the consignor. There have been other sales of paintings bearing the signature of Harry Long. To our knowledge, this is the first example of a work attributing the artist to be from Michigan and having a Detroit and DIA affiliation. The address listed for the artist is 1152 Holcomb Street, Detroit, Michigan.
Condition
In original untouched condition. Original canvas, stretcher, and frame. No evidence of damage or restoration. Minor craquelure along upper stretcher line. Areas of loss to the frame at the edges.
