Description
South America, Bolivia, Spanish Colonial, ca. 19th century CE. A lovely 92% silver halo for a statue of a saint (santo). This halo is formed with an arched panel that was hammered and shaped to be a stunning adornment. The interior curve features a repousse motif of curvilinear foliate shapes of Spanish influence. Narrow ridges radiate outward like rays from this repousse band. A thin rod in the center would attach this stunning piece to a wooden saint's head, perhaps belonging to a Madonna figure. Small perforations on the sides offer additional points of attachment for this piece. Size: 12.25" W x 10.25" H (31.1 cm x 26 cm); quality of silver: 92%; total weight: 270 grams
