Native American, Pacific Northwest Coast, ca. 1920s. A charming totem pole, hand-carved from fine-grained red cedar, and depicting two totemic figures including an impressive Thunderbird at the top, with separately carved outspread wings attached, above a seated bear, with paws placed beneath its open mouth, all finely painted in a colorful palette of scarlet, periwinkle, kelly green, jet black, and creamy white - and attached to a base made from a cross section of a thick branch. Size: 8.2" W x 10.6" H (20.8 cm x 26.9 cm)

Condition
Normal surface wear with a few minor scuffs, but pigments are still strong. Minute nicks to peripheries. Slight stain to base. Collection tag reads, "1920's North-West Coast Totem Pole, Red Cedar". Collection number written on label attached to underside of base.
