Description
Central Asia, Bactrian, ca. late 1st millennium BCE. A mold-cast bronze jar, used for storing kohl cosmetic material, in the shape of a stylized fish with a slender tail and protruding bodily fins. A narrow cylindrical neck protrudes from the mouth of the animal and originally had a stopper to securely contain its contents. Fine layers of russet and green patina have formed across the vessel. Size: 2.3" L x 1.125" W (5.8 cm x 2.9 cm)
