Description
Western Asia, probably made in Khorasan, eastern Persian (Iran) and western Afghanistan, Seljuk (Seljuq) period, ca. 1037 to 1194 CE. A cast brass vessel, likely for storing kohl - the ancient cosmetic used for lining the eyes of both men and women, presenting an ovoid body with a long tubular neck, all supported by four legs with angled feet. The vessel is simple yet elegant with subtle details - tiered bands at the upper end of the neck, a flared rim, a curved shoulder marrying the vessel body and the tubular neck, as well as rounded borders framing the upper ends of each foot.
