A FRENCH FIRST EMPIRE ORMOLU-MOUNTED NAPOLEONIC CLOCK AFTER ANTONIO CANOVA (ITALIAN 1757-1822), POSSIBLY WALTRIN, PARIS, EARLY 19TH CENTURY
formed as Napoleon as Caesar after the bust by Antonio Canova, with a laurel wreath around his head, the plinth with Imperial accoutremenets surrounding the clock face, the two side panels with swords within laurel wreaths, supported by four eagle-form feet; height including base: 53 cm (20 7/8 in.), dimensions of base: 18 x 20 cm (7 1/8 x 7 7/8 in.)
CONDITION
The bust appears in good condition. Overall surface dust visible to the naked eye. Minor discoloration to the gold detailing. Imperfections to the chest of the bust of Napoleon and discoloration. The glass encasement to the clock interior is cracked to the upper right, measuring at 6.35 cm (2 1/2 in.), should be noted the clock is not in working condition. Otherwise no significant issues to report.
