Description
***Auction Highlight*** 1846-d/d RPM Dahlonega Gold Liberty Half Eagle $5 Graded Choice AU/BU Slider By USCG. This is an impressive, nearly Mint State survivor of this bold naked eye Repunched Mintmark variety. Flickers of original satin luster are readily evident and the surfaces display lovely olive-gold patina. The strike is uncommonly strong for a Dahlonega Mint half eagle and, in fact, both sides exhibit sharp definition on virtually all design elements. An extremely popular RPM that is included in the Guide Book alongside the "normal" mintmark 1846-D, the 1846-D/D is also a scarce variety with fewer than 200 example believed extant. It is similar in overall rarity to the 1839-D, 1849-D, 1855-D and 1858-D (when considered as a distinct issue), and is typically offered no finer than EF. Clearly an important condition rarity, this AU-58 is sure to see spirited bidding among specialists. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation
