Pair of Antique Chinese Zitan Carved palace lanterns. This pair of zitan hardwood palace lanterns. Its exterior appearance pursues consistence of top and leg. The palace lamp was created during the Eastern Han Dynasty, blossomed in the Sui and Tang dynasties, and flourished in the Qianlong period. It is an important decoration of the palace. Clue to the fact that it was used for the palace for a long term, apart from the lighting feature, it also deserve to elaborate adornment, in order to show the wealth and luxury of the emperor. Zitan is an extremely dense wood which sinks in water. It is a member of the rosewood family and is botanically classified in the Pterocarpus genus. The lumber is blackish-purple in hue, and its fibers are loaded with deep red pigments which have been used for dye throughout the ages. The entirety is encased in amazing relief carving which gives this box a captivating appearance. The zitan Lanterns shows smooth lustrous patina, dense hardwood with feathery fine grain. It has distinctive form and elegant ornamentation.
