Measurements: Height: 4.8 cm Diam: 17.5 cm
PROVENANCE: From the Estate of Ronald Gene Arnes (1926-2019) of Chattanooga, Tennessee. A private collector, US Navy World War II Veteran and served in Naval Aviation in Anti-Submarine Warfare, General Motors management for the overseas parts development program.
Chinese Ming Dynasty Period, Xuande Blue and White Festival Red Plate. The dish wall is finely carved with iron red glazed flori-form lobed petals, raised on flat footed ring base. The exterior decorated with hand-painting in clean white under glazed base color which contrast against the cobalt blue color, depicted of facing beside imperial dragon with flying phoenix surround by flaming ruyi, vapors and cumulus clouds. Since the dragon and the phoenix usually serve as auspicious symbols, any reported sightings of a dragon or phoenix were considered extremely auspicious, heralding a glorious period of peace and prosperity for the people and the country. The glazes of the whole vase are colorful, gorgeous, and showing distinguished honor.
The Under-base bears a reign mark, a six under glazed blue script characters reign mark, enclosed within double fine blue rings, Made In The Years of Xuande Reign Period.
