Description
Eastern Europe, Russia, Imperial Period, St. Petersburg, ca. late 19th century CE. A pair of beautiful gilt silver and enamel cloisonne serving spoons. The first spoon has a finial comprised of a geometric cloisonne pattern with a blue, white, and red hues. A twisted handle connects to the deep teardrop shaped bowl. The backside of the bowl is also covered with cloisonne in a scrolling foliate pattern. The neck is stamped with three marks; "AA 1880" with a rectangle, a faint Cyrillic script mark, and "84" in square which indicates the silver purity. The other spoon has a rounded finial tip with a blue enamel motif, and a twisted handle that tapers to the neck and round bowl. The backside is also adorned with cloisonne in blue, green, and shimmering red - and a slightly recessed square is set in the center. On the neck are the assay marks in faint Cyrillic script with "1887" within a rectangle, and the silver purity and "84" with anchor and grapnel. A very fine and large pair! Size teardrop shaped spoon: 7.675" L x 1.875" W (19.5 cm x 4.8 cm); round spoon: 7.43" L x 2.25" W (18.9 cm x 5.7 cm); quality of silver: 83% to 94%; quality of gold gilt: .5% to 6%; total weight of both: 155.7 grams

Condition
Small indentation to round spoon, discoloration and staining to enamel on its bowl, and chip to twisted handle. Chip to rim of other spoon. Surface nicks and pitting to enamel of both. Nice patina on both.
