P. Buckley Moss (American, b. 1933), Two Original Watercolors
the first depicting a young Amish woman in a snowy landscape, signed and dated 1975 in pencil, matted and framed under glass (Sight size 8 x 4 1/2 in.; Frame dimension 13 x 9 1/2 in.) (toning to mat board, not examined out of the frame); the second depicting two young Amish children fishing in an autumnal landscape, signed and dated 1973 in ink, matted and framed under glass (Sight size 12 1/2 x 10 1/4 in.; Frame dimensions 23 x 20 1/2 in.) (toning and foxing to mat, not examined out of the frame).
Originally from Staten Island, New York, P. Buckley Moss moved with her family to Virginia. It was in the Shenandoah Valley that she found her greatest artistic inspiration, becoming captivated by the life and culture of the Amish and Mennonite people of the area. She embraced the local landscapes, lifestyles, and traditions and felt that the life and culture she was part of held an important message for modern society: live simply and enjoy every moment!
