Description
Ronald Reagan Gifted Buckaroo Belt Buckle
A fantastic brass toned belt buckle depicting a raised relief of a cowboy on a bucking bronco in front of the White House. The verso of the buckle has raised relief "With Best Wishes / Ronald Reagan / 40th President of the United States". Housed in the original Navy Blue box with "Ronald Reagan's" embossed gilt signature to the front.. 3.25" x 2". The buckle appears to accommodate a 1.5" to 1.75" belt. Fine condition.Â
Reagan was known for having taken the phrase "The Buck Stops Here" as a unfettered belief of taking responsibility. This was put to the test during the Iran-Contra affair, when an act was completed by Admiral Poindexter without supposed knowledge of the President, and instead of hiding behind the curtain, Reagan came out and confronted both his administration and himself insisting on accountability. President Reagan used a version of this phrase during his testimony regarding the Iran-contra affair, Admiral Poindexter, and the scheme to divert money to the contras. He had said "Yet the buck does not stop with Admiral Poindexter, it stops here with me"...."no president should ever be protected from the truth," and "No operation is so secret that it must be kept from the commander-in-chief. I had the right, the obligation, to make my own decision.".
The buckle offered here embodies that theme, a wonderful piece of Presidential Reagan memorabilia.
