A Fantastic Collection of 6 Naval & Presidential Lighters
6 Lighters, Four of which have Naval references to War ships named after Presidents, one references LBJ and the "Texas White House", and one is a West Point Lighter. A beautiful set, perfect for a Lighter collector, or someone interested in Naval or Presidential memorabilia. From the collection of Ron Hoskins, assassinologist. Each described below:
1. LBJ Lighter, 2.25" x 1.75". One side with an enameled drawing of "The Texas White House", with the verso showing "From LBJ Country". Near fine.
2. JFK Lighter with an etching of the "USS John F. Kennedy", "Commissioned September 7 1968, Decommissioned March 23, 2007". 1.5" x 2.5". Near fine seemingly unused condition. USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67) is the only ship of her class and the last conventionally powered carrier built for the United States Navy. The ship was named after the 35th President of the United States, John F. Kennedy, and was nicknamed "Big John".
3. Woodrow Wilson Lighter with an enameled front of "USS Woodrow Wilson (SSBN-624)". 1.25' x 2". A Lafayette class ballistic missile submarine, this was the only ship of the United States Navy to be named for Woodrow Wilson, the 28th President of the United States. She later was converted into an attack submarine and redesignated SSN-624. Near fine with slight toning to verso.
4. Andrew Jackson Lighter with an enameled front of "One Man With Courage Is a Majority / USS Andrew Jackson 619SSBN". 1.5" x 2". Near fine with light scuffing to verso. The USS Andrew Jackson (SSBN-619) was a Lafayette-class nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine, it was the second ship of the United States Navy to be named for Andrew Jackson, the seventh President of the United States.
5. Naval Lighter depicting the "USS Chilton APA-38". 1.5" x 2.25". Near fine with light scuffs to verso. The USS Chilton was a Bayfield-class attack transport. Her task was to deliver troops to the battle front, and to recover and care for the wounded. She served in the Pacific Ocean in the war against the Empire of Japan and returned home post-war with one battle star to her credit.
6. U.S.M.A Lighter with the date of 1936. (The United States Military Academy), 1.5" x 2.5", also known as West Point, Army, Army West Point, The Academy, or simply The Point. The lighter has an elevated brass toned relief depicting an eagle with wings to the front, the verso references the 25the reunion, 1936"
