Nymphaea Odorata – Beautiful chromolithograph from L. Prang, recognized as possibly the best producer of chromolithographs in the 19th century. Chromolithographs begin life when an artist reinterprets the colors of a painting by drawing them on a separate stone plate, then printing those images--one at a time--on a special sheet. As many as 20-30 separate plates may be used, making it very time-consuming and rarely used, thus making chromoliths quite scarce. Actual plate from the scarce Native Flowers and Ferns of the United States by Thomas Meehan, published 1878 by L. Prang and Company.
