Description
Chelsea Clock Co., Boston, Mass., "Base and Ball" shelf clock, in brass case inscribed "H.B. Wilson from the Berkeley Council of Parents and Teachers 1918-1928" on top and "We build for tomorrow" on front of the base. Factory blued steel hands, 4 1/2" silvered brass dial with arabic numerals, 8 day, Model M House Strike spring driven movement stamped with serial #135888. This same number is stamped on the mahogany panel inserted below the base. The factory sales ledger states this clock was shipped on "Sept. 11, 1920" to the "H. Morton Co."
Condition
Case has oxidzed with areas of discoloration as expected with age and heat has caused the numerals to weep on to the surface of the silver. The bluing on the factory hands has faded consistent with other aging. The escutcheon grommets around the winding arbors are damaged. The movement is ticking and striking.
