Rarity-4+ ms62 SEGS. Beauty and rarity are combined in this lovely coin, one that is among the finer examples known and, beyond that, has superb eye appeal. The piece has sparkling yellow-gold surfaces with chiefly reflective fields and frosty motifs. Nicely struck with bold reverse details at the eagle's neck and other areas that are typically weak in examples of this design type. The design on the reverse might seem familiar to you even if you are not a specialist in early US gold, and that is because it is the same rendition of the Great Seal of the United States as is on every US One Dollar Bill. There is one subtle but important difference though. On the early eagle design, a heraldic miscue exists: The eagle clutches the olive branch of peace in the sinister, or less-honorable, claw, while the arrows of war are in his dexter, or more-honorable claw, in effect signaling "war is more honorable than peace." That heraldic snafu is rectified on the one-dollar bill. The example at hand is tied for 6th finest known. We have included both an ms62 and ms63 for your comparison.
