Up for auction is a true classic 70s diver with distinct styling, a Cordura Sea-Gull.
The Cordura Sea-Gull has a shiny, brass chrome plated case, not steel as we see normally. It has a Submariner-style external divers bezel but with originally protruded numbers and lines. A fixed internal scale inspired by watches with internal bezels combined with a deep purple dial that has aged really well with almost no fading. At the bottom of the dial the T Swiss Made T markings are present.
The movement is a Baumgartner Frères S.A. BFG 158 31/7, automatic with day and date
This isn’t a watch you don’t see every day, dating back to the heady days when the pin pallet escapement was still widely used. Up for auction is a fine example that proves this type of movement was present in the Swiss watch industry and not only used by the British.
This lovely Cordura has is a very weird thing indeed with its 17 jewel pin pallet movement, made by Baumgartner, the 158 31/7. These were the days when some manufacturers claimed that the pin pallet escapement was superior to the Swiss lever.
A Great looking watch, and as elaborate as it gets for a pin pallet movement – and mostly a great entry level collectors piece.
