Description
A Mezcala Stone Figure Guerrero, Mexico, c. 700-300 BC Strongly carved dark green stone in form of a muscular figure, deeply carved facial features with remains of red cinnabar at the mouth. Grooved brows and nostrils. Conical drill holes through nose septum. In very good condition, scattered light mineral encrustation. Of note is that the back of the head is worn and has a different patina from the rest of the piece. Provenance: A Private Southwest Collection Ex. Merrin Gallery, New York, NY Ex.
