Jim Backus (1913-1989) Actor. Backus was a film and television actor known for his roles in Rebel Without a Cause and Gilligan’s Island, as well as being the voice of Mr. Magoo. His book, Backus Strikes Back, written with his wife, actress Henny (1911-2004), Stein and Day, 1984, signed on the first blank page, “To Harry Thanks for your many kindnesses With Love Jim Backus” and “And Kisses!
