Description
Matthew B. Ridgway (1895-1993) General. During World War II Ridgway commanded the newly activated 82nd Infantry Division. He planned and executed the night airborne operation during the invasion of Sicily then during the Normandy invasion personally jumped into France with his unit. In the late postwar, Ridgway served as army Deputy Chief of Staff in the Pentagon. He was named successor in command of United Nations troops in Korea with General MacArthur's removal by President Truman. 8 ½” x 11” autograph note signed with initials, at the bottom of an autograph request: “12 Jul 80 I have autographed enough for you. This will be the last. I can scarcely keep up with my correspondence. M.B.R.”
