Description
Graceful pendant of the late 19th - early 20th century in the form of an elephant with a turret on the back, made of silver, 56-karat gold (14K), and enamel. Such figurines and jewels were very popular in Russia at the turn of the century, since in Denmark, where Empress Maria Feodorovna (the wife of Alexander III) was born, one of the most prestigious state awards is the Order of the Elephant with a sign in the form of a white elephant with a miniature turret inlaid with gems.Hallmarks: 56 on the elephant's pelerine, below the belly there is a stamp with the initials MP (Cyrillic) and other Russian hallmarks.
