Item Details

Description

Boston & Maine Railroad steam Locomotive Bell #3237. This bell has an additional stamping of 1449? It's 144x. This 144x lettering is larger than the standard Boston & Maine stamping of 3237. B&M #144x is in the range of the "B" class 2-6-0 locomotives which were a little earlier in time than the "J" class 4-4-2 locomotives. Some J class steamers survived into commuter service in the 1950s. #3237 was a 1909 Manchester "J1b" class build. In 1921 it was upgraded to a "J1e" class and was scrapped in 1945.
