GLASS INTAGLIO, AFTER PRINCE STANISLAS PONIATOWSKI, 19TH CENTURY the brownish-orange glass with the impression of an intaglio depicting Hercules killing the oxen of Tiodamus (Throdamus), with the signature ‘Apollonides’ in Greek, measuring 34 x 25mm, gross weight 13.6 grams. Provenance: Reproduced from an early 19th century carnelian intaglio in the collection of Prince Stanlislas Poniatowski, sold at Christie’s in 1839, lot 1550, purchased by John Tyrell. The current whereabouts of the original are unknown, but Tyrell’s plaster impression of it is recorded in the Beazley archive at the University of Oxford, reference T445.
