The National Industrial Conservation Movement existed between 1914-1918. Publishing propaganda posters such as this was part of what they did to further motivate Americans laborers during the hardships of World War I. These types of posters would become incredibly popular during World War II.

In this poster the "knocker" is seen hammering a sign on the door of "opportunity." It reads "Don't try it, this is a tough job." The "booster" swings the door of "opportunity" wide open and marches in with confidence to find "success" and "more pay". Beside him a bird says, "This door is never locked to the Booster."
