Description
Edison cylinder record phonograph mold made from copper. Thought to be part of the Clarence Ferguson Collection. Clarence Ferguson was the last authorized Edison dealer in the United States. According to Mr. Ferguson's recorded interview with Leo Kimmett in September 1968, Ferguson started working at the Edison Company in 1907. How Mr. Ferguson acquired this is unknown. In the interview, he stated that when the Phonograph Plant closed down in New Jersey, everything was hauled out to the 'meadows' and dumped. This included record molds, equipment and parts. It is assumed that this was acquired by Mr. Ferguson at that time. This specific mold is heavier and thicker than lot 2550 and weighs 7.3 oz. Inside at the top has the record name, but is too hard to read without reading the mold. Outside and inside have some surface dirt but are fairly clean and do not appear to have any negative effects on your records. Top of the cylinder has wear from use. Cylinder record molds are extremely rare and hard to find. They are some of the most sought after items for phonograph collectors. Must see photos.
