Description
Pastel, pen and ink on paper mounted on board. Profile portrait of Thomas Felton, Jr., inscribed Marblehead– 1777. Recruited in 1776 for John Glover's Regiment he and his father, Thomas Sr.,were with the earliest marine unit, famous for crossing the Delaware with Washington. From Marblehead, Massachusetts, Thomas Jr. was from a seafaring family. After the War Thomas Jr. enlisted for three years in the state Militia which is when this portrait was rendered. Presented in an early 19th century two part mahogany veneer molding. Size: 10 x 8" and framed 14 x 12.25" Weight: 21 pounds 11 ounces Condition: excellent.
