Description
Pre-Columbian, Central Mexico, Aztec empire, ca. 1300 to 1500 CE. A wonderful terracotta incensario comprised of an openwork olla presenting abstract geometric motifs with a tastefully flared rim, supported by a pair of rounded legs at one end and a long tubular handle with a pointed end (perhaps intended to represent a human limb or avian head) protruding from the opposite side. The surface presents a redware finish with scattered manganese deposits. Size: 8.75" L x 4.5" in diameter (bowl) x 4.25" H (22.2 cm x 11.4 cm x 10.8 cm)
