Description
Western Europe, probably Spain, ca. 17th century. An elegant rapier presenting a lengthy carbon steel blade, a wrapped-copper grip, and an iron pommel and cross guard. The elaborate hilt boasts a spherical pommel, an ovoid grip wrapped in copper wire with four vertical ribs of iron, a slender knuckle guard, straight quillons, and a cupped guard decorated with an undulating periphery and a starburst of incised striations each with a series of repeated "V" motifs that create a floral presentation. Tapering to a sharp point, the attenuated blade features a high central ridge. Size: 44.5" L x 8.75" W (113 cm x 22.2 cm); Size of blade: 37.25" L (94.6 cm)
