Western Europe, probably Spain, ca. 17th century. An elegant rapier presenting a lengthy carbon steel blade, a wrapped-copper grip, and an iron pommel and cross guard. The elaborate hilt boasts a spherical pommel, an ovoid grip wrapped in copper wire with four vertical ribs of iron, a slender knuckle guard, straight quillons, and a cupped guard decorated with an undulating periphery and a starburst of incised striations each with a series of repeated "V" motifs that create a floral presentation.
