Item Details
Description
This lot consists of a graphite illustration on paper, done in the romantic style of Sir Edward Coley Burne-Jones (British, 1833-1898). A handwritten inscription at lower right corner reads, "E.B.J." A small stamped "S" can be seen at bottom. This lovely image depicts the classical profile of a woman. She gazes peacefully ahead, her nose and lips the characteristic pout of the Pre-Raphaelite art movement. An excellent addition to any collection. This unframed piece measures approximately 8.5" x 5.5".

Sir Edward Coley Burne-Jones (British, 1833-1898) was an artist and designer who was closely associated with the Pre-Raphaelites. Under the direction of artists like William Morris (British, 1834-1896) and Dante Gabriel Rossetti (British, 1828-1882), the members of the Pre-Raphaelite movement helped foster a creative resurgence in craftsmanship and the decorative arts. Edward Burne-Jones was involved in a wide range of creative endeavors, which embraced stained glass, textiles, mosaics, and even jewelry.
