This lot consists of an ink and watercolor illustration on paper, done in the late Surrealist style of modern artist Leonora Carrington (British-Mexican, 1917-2011). Handwritten graphite inscription at top left. A symbolic and extremely fine illustration. This unframed piece measures approximately 6.75" x 10.75".

Reverse side of piece features three stamps and one affixed label. The label reads, "Ministerio de Cultura". The three stamps read, "Musee d'Orsay, Paris"; "Direccion de Bibliotecas Archivos y Museos. Santiago Chile. Autorizado" ["Directorate of Libraries, Archives and Museums. Santiago, Chile. Authorized"]; "Musees de Cherbourg. Musee Thomas Henry rue Vastel. Tel: 02 33 23 02 23. Fax: 02 33 23 02 27."

Leonora Carrington (British-Mexican, 1917-2011) was a Surrealist painter, artist, and novelist. She spent her early childhood and young adulthood in England. Carrington moved to Mexico City as an adult and would become one of the last surviving members of the Surrealist art movement. She was also a founding member of the Women's Liberation Movement (WLM), which was a union of feminist intellectualism and grassroots political organizing in Mexico during the 1970s. Carrington led an intricate and fast-paced life of large-scale movements. Her artwork is haunting and timeless in its human symbolism.
