Description
Walter Launt Palmer (born, died Albany NY). An American Impressionist architectural painting of a Federal brick home in New England or New York State (to date location not currently known) in a Winter landscape with four tall chimneys, attached carriage house (with door-shape opening shadow to the interior with rear window and brushstroke lattice on closed door adjacent), large Italianate cupola roof superstructure with railing and shutters, entry door with sidelights and overdoor fanlight, six-over-six windows (two with closed shutters, two half-sash curtained), distant open landscape, composed and detailed trees,shadows. Signed W. L. Palmer and dated (1905) LL. In the estate of the consignor for more than a generation.
Palmer was the son of sculptor Erastus Dow Palmer and a family friend, teacher and influence was the renowned Hudson River School painter Frederic E. Church. (MAMC638)(JP)

Condition
No repaint or restoration apparent. Very, very few craquelure lines except for lower margin and those are very fine in appearance. No paint loss, and paint structure is sound. No tears. A couple of almost imperceptible pinholes. Frame corners need tightening; age discoloring to gilt finish.
