Item Details
Description
R.G. Finney (Wyoming, B. 1941) "Lynx Mother and Cubs" Signed lower center. Original Acrylic painting on Masonite.

Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation.

This painting is the original painting which was published on the Fleetwood Porcelain Plate for The Endangered Kingdom Collection Forest Sanctuary.

Although her gaze is fixed on something in the distance, the vigilant mother Lynx is ever cognizant of her kits' movements. The young one at her feet nestles up to its parent for warmth, unaware that its frisky sibling is about to pounce from a nearby tree limb. However, the matriarch of this handsome Lynx family takes such antics in stride for she knows that in a short time those playful attacks will become vital to her offsprings' survival.

Living in the wilds requires a great deal of skill, including a talent for capturing prey. In order to trap the mainstay of the Lynx's diet, snowshoe hare, the hunter must have a sharp eye and be fast on its feet. Equipped with large hind paws and a coat that turns white, concealing it in snow, this species of hare presents its predator with quite a challenge. Nevertheless, nature has also provided the Lynx with huge feet that seem to effortlessly pad through the deep snows of its natural habitat.

Overall Size: 18 x 18 in.
Unframed.
