***Auction Highlight*** NGC 1859 J-228 Pattern Cent 1c Graded ms65 By NGC. J-228. This transitional pattern combines the standard Indian Head cent obverse with the adopted Shield Reverse design of 1860. Struck in copper-nickel with a plain edge. This is a great-looking orange-red example with a few scattered brownish accents under a loupe, showing generous luster and good eye appeal. These were issued as regular coinage; but for some reason the entire mintage never entered circulation. Wrongly considered a pattern issue; it is a must-have for a Mint State Indian cent set.
