Description
1884 1ed Walter Raleigh Colony in America Roanoke Croatoan Francis Drake Tarbox
Walter Raleigh was one of the most famous English explorers of the 16th-century, perhaps best known for his attempts at establishing English settlements in America. Roanoke, as it is more commonly known, has become colloquialized as the ‘lost colony’, mostly due to the failed attempts at permanent colonization.
Increase Tarbox’s book on Raleigh’s colony was published in 1884, taken from several earlier accounts. It includes descriptions of his numerous voyages across the Atlantic Ocean, to and from Britain. Tarbox also features printings of Raleigh’s correspondence with notes on Roanoke, Croatoan Island, Sir Francis Drake, Ralph Lane, and many other important figures in the earliest time of Colonial America.
