Title: Victorian album containing numerous chromolithographed cards, many of them trade cards
Place Published: San Francisco & Elsewhere
Publisher:
Date Published: 19th/early 20th centuries
Description:

Approximately 400 chromolithographed trade cards, greeting and illustrative cards, genre scenes, design sets, die-cuts, etc. Glued into a 60-page album measuring 31x24.5 cm (12¼x9¾"), cloth album decoratively stamped in gilt, with name of original owner Constance A. Milton in gilt.

Fabulous Victorian scrap book album with a wide variety of chromolithograph cards. Approximately 80 of the cards are advertising trade cards (other than those from the card manufacturers advertising the cards themselves). A majority of the firms advertising are from San Francisco and the Bay Area. Includes an amusing 25-card alphabet series, in French oddly, advertising Kast's Fine Shoes - there is no letter "M".

Constance Amelia Milton, owner of the album, was born in San Francisco on June 22, 1877. She was the daughter of Eliza Bodwell and Thomas Slocomb Milton, who were married at Boston on January 1, 1867. The Miltons re-settled in San Francisco around 1868.

Among the firms advertising:

  • John Middleton Coal Dealer 718 Sansome Street
  • Edwin C. Burt Fine Shoes - Nolan Bros. 812-814 Market Street & 738-740 Market Street
  • Kast's Fine Shoes, SF
