Item Details

Description

For Rushdie--Essays by Arab and Muslim Writers in Defense of Free Speech. SIGNED BY RUSHDIE, 1994 first edition of the English translation of the 1993 French edition. George Braziller: New York, 1994. Translations by Kenneth Whitehead and Kevin Anderson. A fascinating and still timely compendium of essays regarding free speech in the Islamic World, compiled in response to the fatwa issued against Rushdie after the 1990 publication of his novel "The Satanic Verses". According to Rushdie, "It is a great delight to find in this volume...the most gifted, the most learned, the most important voices of the Muslim and Arab world, gathered together to subject my work and the furor surrounding it to so brilliant, so many sided, so judicious an examination."
