Autograph Note
No place, no date (ca. 1803-29). 3 1/2 x 7 5/8 in. (89 x 194 mm). Autograph note, to Ohio Governor Edward Tiffin: "Mrs. Madison presents her best respects/to Governor Tiffen (sic), & begs him to pardon her/agency, in giving him trouble, this early/in his avocations at Washington!-The/enclosed letter will explain the cause/and in justice (sic) to the writer, she must say/(word missing) every way worthy to be employed." Mounted to card; bottom left corner chipped, affecting one word; unevenly toned. Lot includes an engraved portrait and one postcard of Dolley Madison, as well as one postcard of James Madison.
Edward Tiffin (1766-1829) was Ohio's first governor.
