Description

RARE AND FINE PAIR OF MINIATURE MOURNING DOVES by Gen. Chester DeGavre, Deep Creek, VA, (1907-1993). Very fine detailed original paint and excellent structural condition. Both with carved wing tips and original bills. Both mounted on a twig atop a base. Signed and identified by maker. Overall height approximately 6 inches. Each dove measures approximately 2 1/2 inches in length. Born in New Jersey, General DeGavre carved his own decoys as a boy and carved miniatures for relaxation while in combat during World War II. An outstanding example from this noted military general. 400-600
