North America, United States, ca. mid-19th century CE. A nice leather bag with a deep interior cavity and a top flap with a brass buckle and fragmentary buckle strap. The elongated back panel is attached to part of a horse saddle, so it would not encumber the rider. A bag like this was perhaps used as a civilian ammunition box or as a courier's bag. Size (bag): 8.875" W x 4.875" H (22.5 cm x 12.4 cm); (w/ back flap): 17.125" H (43.5 cm)

Loss to lower portion of buckle strap as shown. Light abrasions to body, top flap, and back panel, with desiccation to leather commensurate with age, and slight bending to overall form of body walls and front flap. Light earthen deposits within body.
