Description
**Originally Listed At $200**
Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chancay, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. A lovely textile fragment comprised of tightly-woven camelid (alpaca or llama wool) fibers in hues of beige, wheat, crimson, golden-yellow, and cobalt. The panel illustrates 13 abstract standing shamanic figures with bulbous bodies, sinuous limbs with curled tips, and one arm holding a tall staff. Each figure dons a dark-blue headdress with a rabbit-ear flap on either side. Though 12 of the figures have nearly-uniform brown-hued bodies, a single figure stands out and boasts a more-vibrant chromatic palette of red and yellow colors. Mounted atop a fabric-covered mat inside a frame. Size (textile): 9.25" W x 10.75" H (23.5 cm x 27.3 cm); size (frame): 14.1" W x 15.1" H (35.8 cm x 38.4 cm).
