Pre-Columbian, Colombia, Carchi-Narino Highlands, Narino culture, ca. 1250 to 1500 CE. A lovely hand-built pottery amphora of a classic "bullet" style with a highly burnished surface, finished with deep vermilion and black negative resist geometric motifs. The vessel has a lozenge-shaped body with a rounded base, a sloping shoulder which tapers to a cylindrical neck, and a flared rim. The neck is ringed with parallel registers of concentric circles, and the body exhibits stars and swastika patterns enclosed within pairs of negative resist bands. Custom metal display stand included. Size: 9" W x 22.25" H (22.9 cm x 56.5 cm); 29.75" H (75.6 cm) on included custom stand.
This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full report will accompany purchase.
Provenance: private Tucson, Arizona, USA collection, acquired between 1950 and 1985

Condition
Rim repaired from multiple pieces, with small losses and adhesive residue along break lines. Minor abrasions and nicks to base, body, neck, and rim, with fading to original pigmentation, and light encrustations. Nice earthen deposits and traces of original pigmentation throughout. Two TL drill holes: beneath base, and beneath rim.
