Central Asia, Pakistan/northern India, Indo-Persian period, ca. 19th century CE. A lovely shield known as a dhal, a form of a buckler shield comprised of lacquered hide and brass bosses. The round shield is convex, with a concave edge and four large brass bosses. The surface features a central etched floral/sunburst motif.
