Description
**Originally Listed At $350**
Egypt, Romano-Egyptian period, ca. 1st century BCE to 2nd century CE. Five fragments from stucco sarcophagi, all nicely displayed in a wooden shadow box with a glass front. There are two sections of hair, one flesh-colored section, part of one foot, and an ear with sculpted hair. The original pigment remains at least in places on all, giving an idea of the coloring of these sarcophagi when first made. Naturalistic stucco features like these reflect the profound change that the Greco-Roman world brought to Egypt. Depictions of a deceased person's face, full head, or body replaced the stylized art of dynastic Egypt. Size of largest fragment (foot): 2.5" W x 5.25" H (6.4 cm x 13.3 cm); size of shadow box: 11" W x 9" H (27.9 cm x 22.9 cm)
Provenance: private J.H. collection, Beaverton, Oregon, USA, acquired in the late 1990s; ex-private New York, New York, USA collection
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
