Description
JAN HARRELL (American/Texas b. 1952) A GROUP OF TWO ENAMEL ON COPPER PLATES, "Fig," AND "Lemon," FROM "The Banquet of the Muse," 2007, enamel and silkscreen overlays on copper, signed, titled and dated verso in sgraffito, "Jan, 2007, Fig," 16" x 15"; and "Jan, 2007, Lemon," 16" x 14 1/4". Note: Jan Harrell elaborates on The Banquet of the Muse, "This is part of a table setting made for a larger than life woman, full of life, joy, and a somewhat naughty nature. Pomegranates, peaches, figs, kiwis - fully ripe and moist were the dinner plates she ate from. Fruit that when bitten into, their juices run down the muse's neck and stained her body with nectar." The workshop was held at Kent State University, Ohio where access to large kilns enabled the artist to create a monumental table setting presentation of whimsical enameled works of art.
