Description
A tiny work of hand painting and potting by the Japanese for a child’s tea set. A tiny, finely, hand-potted tea pot with attached spout and handle. The little teapot is richly decorated with panels of roses or peonies with a rock and leaves on a milky white ground. The panels are surrounded by iron red and gilt scrolling. iron red, green, eggplant, and gilt. Under glaze cobalt has been used to outline medallions and edge the foot ring. There are holes inside the spout to prevent tea from going into the cup. It has a gilt knob and a hole to let out steam. The lid fits the mouth snugly. The potting is very thin. You can see the translucent base when held to a light, as well as the potter’s rings on the unglazed white clay base.
