Bronze firegiltTibet or China, Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644)Dimensions: Height 14 cmWeight: 753 gramsSeated on a double reverse lotus throne with beaded rims in dhayasana, dressed in robe with ornamental brim and fastened around the waist with a doubled cord also spreading out underneath the ankles. The torso is adorned with many beaded necklaces, armlets, bracelets and the shoulders are also decorated with shoulder pads. The hands are crossed in front of the chest holding the temple bell ghanta and thunderbolt vajra, vajramudra. His face is calm, elongated earlobes with large pendants frame the face. A raised urna is in the center on top of the eyebrows, the hair is visible underneath the elaborate tiara enclosing the chignon topped by a vajra prong. Vajradhara literally means "The Vajra-Holder" and is the primordial Buddha.
