Navajo 1970s 28" 3-Strand Fetish Necklace W/Turquoise Thunderbird - This exquisite piece is a 1970s Navajo fetish necklace comprised of three strands of hand carved animals using real stones and shell such as turquoise, mother of pearl, black jet, serpentine and others. The necklace features a plethora of animals including bears, foxes, frogs, armadillos and birds separated by penshell and turquoise heishi beads, and is finished with a 2.6"W x 1.5" turquoise Thunderbird. This necklace comes from a collection which has been housed in a vault for over 40 years. According to our seller, her parents started in the Native American jewelry business in 1972, and the family would travel to the New Mexico Native American reservations and purchase pieces directly from the tribes. They eventually went into the gold jewelry business and have kept these pieces in their private collection for over 40 years. Measurements: 28" length (shortest strand), animals-0.5"-1.5".
