Description

Chinese Qing Daoguang Period style ceramic porcelain hat stand or wig stand. Cream ground with caramel strip to rim, and encircling scene with flora, pottery, and other forms, and abundant Chinese characters. Hand decorated in soft naturalistic tones. Reign mark to base. Ceramic hatstands first appeared during the Qing Jiaqing Period. During the reign of the Daoguang Emperor (r. 1820-1850), holes were cut into the body, promoting flow of air and assisting in the removal of odors from the hat or wig. Includes original 1990 receipt from CHINESE ARTS & CRAFTS LTD. (Hong Kong), affixed. Good overall condition with normal wear and some loss to bottom. Measures 11 in. x 4 3/4 in.
