Group of Six Carved Wood African Figures, consisting of an ancestor figure of a chief on a stool; ancestor carving with raffia hair, Congo; a stylized hornbill with a human body, metal clad with tassels, Senufo, Mali; a carved ancestor figure with a long neck, Ivory Coast; a female fertility figure, Ivory Coast; and a wood, fabric, and nail power figure, with white painted eyes, Congo, Chief- H.- 24 in., W.- 9 1/2 in., D.- 6 in. (6 Pcs.) Provenance: from the Estate of John C. McNeese, New Orleans, Louisiana.
Condition
Condition consistent with age. Wear throughout. Large shrinkage cracks on proper left of seated figure with loincloth in arm and leg. Oxidization of metal on birdlike figure throughout per normal aging. Some old woodworm damage on seated male figure. Shrinkage crack on face of figure with nails and burlap. Arm broken and repaired and some loss to proper right arm of female figure. Small chips and wear throughout pieces per usual age and wear.
